Adult Crisis Stabilization Unit
LifeSkills CSU provides a place to stay and stabilize circumstances, emotions, and/or chemistry for people with severe mental illness such as depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorders, schizophrenia, and other serious and chronic mental illnesses.  Professionals work together with and encourage consumers and family members to resolve issues and situations that may have contributed to the crisis. Services are provided in a supportive environment without leaving the community or entering a hospital. Each resident is evaluated by mental health professionals and is involved in the development of his or her own personal treatment plan.

Treatment options include:

Children's Crisis Stabilization Unit (CCSU)
When children are in crisis, the entire family is affected. The CCSU is a temporary and safe place that provides crisis stabilizations services for children and their families.  CCSU is a 24-hour-per-day, seven-day-per-week unit with services available to children who are seen as being "at risk" of out-of-home placement, including psychiatric hospitalization. The major functions of the CCSU include:

»providing stabilization services to children in crisis that will assist them in their return to a pre-crisis level of functioning 
»assisting children and family members in resolving issues/situations that may have precipitated the crisis, and 
»
providing linkages with community services in order to facilitate an increase in community tenure.

Emergency Services

Emergency crisis intervention specialists are available by telephone 24-hours per day to provide crisis counseling and referral services to people throughout our ten-county Barren River Area Development District. The purpose of this program is telephone crisis intervention, and may include immediate counseling, either over the telephone, or on a face-to-face basis for those who walk in. Crisis intervention focuses on such problems as potential suicide, drug intoxication, family violence, loneliness, substance abuse, food shortage, inadequate housing, and the inability to locate some other desired services.

Decriminalization
The purpose of this program is to keep people who are mentally ill and in psychiatric crisis from incarceration as a result of their mental illness. As outlined in Kentucky Revised Statutes 202A and 202B: clients suffering from a severe and persistent mental illness and in psychiatric crisis are to be evaluated by a Qualified Mental Health Professional.

This program serves the ten-county, Barren River Area Development District.

Crisis Stabilization Unit
This program is designed to assist consumers over the age of 18 with transitional or emergency housing needs until permanent housing can be obtained. Consumers accessing this program must have a case manager. Only referrals from case managers or Crisis Stabilization Unit staff are accepted. Rent is based upon 30% of the tenant's income.

Wrap-around funds may be utilized for those individuals who have no income. The maximum length of stay in these units is 30 days with extensions granted in situations where a longer stay is necessary. Extensions are granted only to those tenants who are compliant with treatment. The Crisis Stabilization Unit provides minimal supervision as well as access to telephones and laundry facilities.

Mobile Acute Crisis Teams

The Mobile Acute Crisis (MAC) team is one of three components of the Crisis Response System. It operates 24-hours-per-day, 7-days-per-week (including holidays) to provide services for individuals experiencing an emotional or psychiatric crisis. Team members are comprised of professional volunteers within LifeSkills. Teams rotate weekly and are accessible between the hours of 5 p.m. and 7:30 a.m. Requests during regular business hours are received by the staff of the Crisis Stabilization Unit. Three teams of volunteers cover this region. The MAC team can be accessed by an individual or referral source calling the HELP-Line or the CSU. One or two members will be dispatched to an approved interview sight to evaluate the mental status and lethality of the consumer. In addition, the team will assist consumers and family members in resolving issues that may have precipitated the crisis, as well as provide linkages with community services in order to facilitate and increase community tenure. Services are rendered in a supportive and empowering manner.

LifeSkills offers affordable solutions to companies that experience financial difficulties as a result of rising healthcare costs, high turnover, low productivity, and high retraining expenses. Resources are available to provide supervisory training and consultation, employee education, retreatment evaluation, diagnosis, referral, treatment, and follow-up services. Confidential counseling services assist employees in overcoming many types of job interferences that may be caused by:
