REGIONAL PREVENTION CENTER

The mission of LifeSkills Regional Prevention Center (RPC) is to provide professional assistance to communities in the Barren River Region (Allen, Barren, Butler, Edmonson, Hart, Logan, Metcalfe, Monroe, Simpson, and Warren) in the planning and implementation of activities aimed at preventing substance abuse.

Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF)

The staff of the RPC provides technical assistance and consultation to individuals and community groups about the SPF process in order to address substance abuse issues. The SPF is a 5 step process focusing on a public health approach that is data driven and outcome based. In addition to the 5 steps, sustainability to continue outcomes and cultural competence in order to eliminate disparities among the populations are also part of the process to be addressed at each step.

Faith-Based Prevention Enhancement Site

The Faith-Based Prevention Enhancement Site is operated through the LifeSkills Regional Prevention Center. The Site seeks to engage people of faith across Kentucky to incorporate effective alcohol, tobacco, and other drug prevention strategies into current ministries. We assist with development of community partnerships, training resources, and mini-grant opportunities.

Champions For A Drug Free Kentucky

Community coalitions with assistance from the Prevention Center are encouraged to apply for Champions funding. This funding is used to purchase prevention curriculum and to increase community awareness/involvement with local anti-drug activities.

Early Intervention Program

The mission of the Early Intervention Program is to help youth and their families learn about risks and consequences associated with alcohol and other drug use. The components of the EIP are screening, parent and youth education, referral follow-up to community resources, and evaluation.

KIDS NOW PLUS

Kids Now Plus helps expectant moms in Kentucky receive services and be supported in their desire to deliver healthy babies. Services include: baby workshops, referrals to prenatal and well baby care, assistance with drug or alcohol problems, case management, crisis intervention, and information about other available community services.

Training for Intervention Procedures (TIPS)

The Center trains area servers of alcohol to take a leading role in the effort to prevent intoxication by recognizing and building upon skills people use everyday in dealing with one another.

Prevention Resources

The Prevention Center can assist with obtaining materials that provides a variety of information about alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.
