Designed for both
men and women 18 years old and over, the 20-bed residential
chemical dependency program at Park Place utilizes
a variable length of client stay based upon individual
needs. Social detoxification and treatment is available
for both alcohol and other drug addictions and is
abstinence based. There is a family component and
clients are encouraged to have at least one family
member or significant other involved in the recovery
process. Clients are also provided education, group
therapy, and are introduced to 12-Step self-help
groups while in Park Place. As there is usually a
waiting list, referrals may be made by calling Park
Place and giving the client's clinical information
to the Assessment Unit. If there is not an open chart,
an assessment will be scheduled to determine appropriateness
for the program, length of stay, and treatment planning
needs. Pregnant women, women with dependent children,
and those with a history of IV drug use are prioritized
for admission. Assessment fees are $50.00; there
is also a $100.00 admission fee. Both of these are
self-pay. Detoxification and treatment costs are
based upon a sliding scale.

Intensive Outpatient Program
(IOP) at Park Place Recovery Center:
The IOP is a 24-session program that meets three times per week for two
and one-half hour sessions. The IOP is designed for those experiencing
significant substance abuse problems, but who appear to have some social
supports in place and are not at risk for serious withdrawal complications.
Clients are provided both educational and treatment services and family
participation is encouraged. There is a $150.00 admission fee, which includes
assessment costs. All session costs are sliding scale. It is common for
a client to enter IOP after a period of residential care. When a client
is referred to the IOP from residential, there is no additional admission
fee charged.
Outpatient DUI Services:
Provided at all centers with the exception of the
Metcalfe County center, our outpatient DUI
Services are composed of three elements: assessment,
education, and treatment.
DUI Assessment: Required by Kentucky DUI statute, the assessment is
composed of both the administration of a standardized computer assessment
instrument and a structured clinical interview. The assessment determines
the appropriate type and duration of services.
DUI Education Programs:
Allowable for first offenders
only as a stand-alone service or multiple offenders may attend
the 20-hour program to prepare them for group. The 20-hour pretreatment
education program consists of 9 two-hour didactic sessions as well
as a one-hour orientation and an individual wrap-up session. These
groups are self-pay.
Outpatient Multiple Offender Groups: Kentucky
statute requires up to a year of treatment for 2nd time offenders,
and a minimum of a year for those with 3 or more convictions. LifeSkills'
Multiple offender groups are designed as continuously-run, open-ended
groups that address the behavior of drinking and driving as well
as other problems associated with drug and/or alcohol use. There
is an emphasis on self-assessment of the level of problematic use
of the chemical as well as the development of a plan for abstinence
or appropriate drinking levels that generate no problems. Each
client is expected to commit to a period of abstinence and to develop
an appropriate DUI Avoidance Plan.
DUI offenders may also be referred to residential and/or IOP services.
Other Outpatient Services:
DOT Assessment and Treatment Services: In February
of 1996, the Department of Transportation issued
guidelines for drug testing those considered
people who were working in "safety-sensitive" positions in the transportation
industry. When any of these people test positive for substance use,
they are referred for an assessment and a subsequent regimen of treatment
and drug screens. The agency that performs the assessment may not provide
treatment and drug screen services; these individuals must be referred
to another provider when evaluated by a LifeSkills' employee. These
services are usually contracted with the employer, but may be paid
for by the client.
Drug Testing Services: We currently provide drug testing services in all
of our county centers with the exception of Metcalfe. Warren County is
served by Park Place Recovery Center. Cost for this services is $25.00
and is usually self-pay unless paid for by the employer.
In addition to these services, each center has the capability to provide
a wide range of individual services related to substance abuse, compulsive
behaviors, and codependency.
Women's
Treatment Groups/Individual Counseling: Available in
larger centers, these specialized groups meet targeted
needs of women with a focus on abuse, relationships,
self-esteem, parenting, and gender factors that relate
to relapse. In centers with fewer female clients, these
issues are addressed in individual sessions.
Women's Substance Abuse Case Management: Case management services assist women
in overcoming barriers to treatment. The case manager works to link the female
client to local social service agencies to assist with food, shelter, transportation,
childcare, healthcare, and any other area that needs to be addressed so that
relapse risk is minimized. This program is currently limited to Warren County.
In addition to these outpatient services for women, the residential program
at Park Place offers specialized program tracts for women and may utilize the
Women's Case Manager to assist in the transition from residential to outpatient
services.
Kentucky
Probation/Parole Groups: Through a joint effort among
the Kentucky Division of Substance Abuse, the Corrections
Cabinet's Office of Probation and Parole, and all of
Kentucky's Community Mental Health Centers, we are able
to provide individual evaluation and group treatment
services to those on probation or who are recently paroled
from Kentucky prisons at no cost to the client. In larger
centers, these clients are placed in groups dedicated
to this population; in smaller centers they are placed
into outpatient DUI groups.
Services to Warren County Drug Court: While some Drug Court clients are referred
for residential or IOP services, we also provide onsite groups at Drug Court
and some individual sessions as indicated by Drug Court staff.
Other Criminal Justice Services: Occasionally, we may receive referrals from
courts that do not precisely fit into specialized programs or services. These
may include referrals for drug charges, public intoxication, and other alcohol/drug
related charges. After assessment, these clients will be placed in the most
appropriate service.
Adolescent
Case Management Program: Located
in the Warren County Day Treatment Program and in the Barren
County Service Center, the Adolescent Case Management Program
provides assessment, education, case management, and treatment
services to adolescents referred by court designated workers,
schools, courts, Family Service Centers, and concerned
parents. After the client completes an assessment consisting
of a computerized instrument and thorough clinical interview,
he or she is placed in the appropriate education and/or
treatment modality. Both facilities provide structured
didactic programming and groups that address the issues
of this priority population. Case management services are
provided to ensure coordination between all appropriate
parties. Assessments are provided under the grant and are
at no charge to the client or referring party. Educational
groups are billed to a C & E allocation. Individual
and group therapy is billed to DMH with a corresponding
client co-pay.
In addition to the specific services provided by the Adolescent Case Management
Program, all of the service centers and Park Place have the capacity to provide
individual services to this population. Logan County is currently planning
to put both educational and group treatment into their service array.
While
there are no structured group services for this population,
clients with co-existing mental illness and substance
abuse disorders are seen individually by outpatient chemical
dependency specialists and the psychiatrist. When stabilized,
and as appropriate, these clients may be referred into
outpatient groups. Services are also being provided to
clients in the Warren County Regional Jail.
