LifeSkills Children’s Services programs offer the widest and most intensive array of services in South Central Kentucky to children, adolescents, and their families. LifeSkills Children’s services provide outpatient treatment in a variety of settings including office, home, school, and daycare. Individuals needing more intensive services may receive residential or respite services in settings such as the Children’s Crisis Stabilization Unit or therapeutic foster care homes. The IMPACT program, available exclusively through LifeSkills, offers Service Coordination services. LifeSkills Children’s services is the only organization in South Central Kentucky with the ability to accommodate the often changing needs of children by allowing them to move seamlessly through various levels of care with the ultimate goal of maintaining the family system.

Outpatient Therapy

We provide quality behavioral health services to our clients in the form of mental health therapy for children who are experiencing mental illness, substance use, or behavior problems. Mental health services consist of individual, family, and group therapy as appropriate and clinically necessary. Services are provided in a variety of settings including the clinic, home, and school.

School-Based Therapy

We have various clinicians who are assigned to specific schools as their primary worksite and work a schedule that parallels the school calendar in the county where they are assigned. In addition to providing individual, family, and group therapy, clinicians can also provide consultation, collaboration, and advocacy for clients when appropriate.

Psychiatric Evaluation and Monitoring

LifeSkills has several psychiatrists and psychiatric Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners on staff to provide psychiatric consultation, evaluation and medication monitoring to clients involved in other LifeSkills programs or services. There is also a pharmacy that can be utilized if clients desire to have their medication filled with us.

Early Childhood Mental Health Program

The Early Childhood Mental Health Program is a community resource available to child care centers, families, and community partners. The Early Childhood Mental Health Program works to improve the childhood experience of children ages birth-5 by addressing their social, emotional, and relational needs. The Early Childhood Mental Health Specialist provides assessments of the mental health needs of children who may or may not be in a child care setting. Therapeutic services are provided to children and their families in the home, in the office, and child care centers. Outreach and instructional programs to caregivers and families through public and private child care centers and other groups are also provided. The Early Childhood Mental Health Specialist can also provide training hours for child care center staff.

Therapeutic Foster Care

LifeSkills, TFC provides a safe and secure therapeutic foster home for children and adolescents ages birth to 21 within the LifeSkills, Inc 10 county area. Families can access Therapeutic Foster Care without relinquishing custody. LifeSkills, TFC has an array of services such as highly trained therapeutic foster parents, case management, therapy, and 24-7 on-call support. LifeSkills, TFC prides itself on being caring, compassionate, team-oriented, and highly supportive. Therapeutic foster parents are specially trained to work with children and adolescents with social, emotional, and/or behavioral needs; receiving initial and ongoing training related to the needs of the foster youth.

KY IMPACT (Service Coordination / Targeted Case Management / High Fidelity)

Each family approved for IMPACT services is assigned a service coordinator. The role of the service coordinator is to: link resources, provide support for parental education, collaborate with other agencies, act as an advocate, and coordinate service team meetings. Families needing a more intense level of service coordination may qualify for High Fidelity Wraparound which draws from the families identified strengths to help them in their mental health recovery.

Family/Peer support / Family Liaison

LifeSkills KY IMPACT provides support and education through One-on-One Parent Support. Yearly weekend parent retreats and family fun events are offered to provide educational, skill building and supportive activities. We have two types of parent support: Family Liaison and Family Peer Support Specialist. Both work with the families on a weekly basis.

Community Support Wraparound

Involves planned therapeutic and mentoring activities structured around meeting individualized goals developed by the service team. Services occur in the home, community, clinic, and schools.  Example activities include, but are not limited to:  social skills training, crisis coping skills, enhancing emotional regulation skills, and anger management skills, just to name a few.  Community support wraparound can also provide in-home support and/or parental education for the child’s caregiver as prescribed by the service team.

Regional Youth Council

RYC is a group that serves youth in the KY IMPACT program from the ages of 13-18. RYC meets once a month for 2-3 hours. The group focuses on the development of independent living, skill development, peer support and mentoring, youth leadership, and community service. RYC is designed to help youth build character and relationships, learn coping skills and develop into self-reliant adults.

Children’s Crisis Unit

The Children’s Crisis Unit provides 24/7 emergency assessments and can provide a brief crisis-related residential stay for children ages 5-17 if needed.
